What is Turnitin Draft Coach?
Turnitin Draft Coach allows you to use Turnitin tools right in Microsoft Word Online to help you work towards the final draft of your assignment before making your submission in Canvas. Draft Coach does three things:
- Similarity Check, alerting you to sections of your writing that may be too similar to other works in the Turnitin database
- Citations Check, identifying references without citations or citations without references
- Grammar Check, highlighting problems with grammar in your writing

Please Note: For the Similarity Check, you can run a maximum of 3 reports per document. When you click the similarity tab on the Draft Coach you will be offered advice on how best to use your 3 reports. Citations Check and Grammar Check usage is unlimited.

Who will see my results?
Draft Coach is intended to be a learning tool to guide students in improving their writing and research skills before submitting their final drafts to their instructors. No one but you will have access to your results.
Does Turnitin store the drafts when I use Draft Coach?
No. Papers are not submitted to the Turnitin repository. Students are safe to use Draft Coach and not match to their own paper if they submit their final version through Turnitin.
Is it free?
Yes. There is no cost to use Draft Coach.
How do I interpret the Similarity Check results?
If instances are found where your writing is similar to or matches a source in the Turnitin database, it will be flagged for you to review. Learn more about Similarity Check.
Which styles does Draft Coach check for?
Citation Checks identifies when your citations are missing references or when your references are missing citations in APA, MLA, and Chicago styles. Learn more about Citation Check.
